We recently had the privilege of touring the Wounded Warrior Dogs project, an art exhibit that was on display  in an uptown storefront. The project is the work of James Mellick, a local artist who has exhibited his work all over the world.

Mellick describes his work as “allegorical,” and explained to us that the dogs are meant to represent the sacrifice of their human counterparts: our nation’s veterans.

Unfortunately, the dogs are on the move and are no longer on display in Marysville, as they will soon take up residence at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Virginia. But we wanted everyone to get a chance to see these magnificent works of art! Click through the slideshow below for images of these incredible pieces.

This project is accepting donations through the Union County Foundation, and Mellick also encourages those touched by his work to contribute to veterans organizations that serve wounded warriors.
