According to a report by the National Association of Realtors, more new homes are being built on slabs, instead of basement foundations. Last year, 57 percent of new homes were built on slabs compared to 27 percent built with full or partial basements.
The report went on to say these building decisions have a lot to do with climate. Homes built in warmer areas are more often built on slabs. Homes in colder areas typically do build on basement foundations due to codes that require foundations be built below the frost line.
